Minoru Katayama / Shujitsu Katayama(Tea name)

Chajin (Tea practitioner)

Born in 1984. Senior Professor of the Mushakoji Senke school of Chanoyu. He received the rank of Senior Professor in 2013. He has participated in tea gatherings held at museums, art museums, shrines, temples, and other venues throughout Japan, where he has performed temae and taken part in a wide range of Chanoyu activities. In addition to welcoming guests from overseas through Chanoyu, he has traveled abroad to prepare tea and engage in cultural exchange. He is also involved in promoting greater understanding and appreciation of Chanoyu culture, giving lectures, and producing tea gatherings, collaborative projects, and other events that cross artistic disciplines and national boundaries.

In 2012, he organized and performed temae at a tea gathering held at the Official Residence of the Consul General of Japan in New York.
In 2014, he appeared in a collaborative performance combining Chanoyu with kouta and traditional Japanese dance at the Mitsukoshi Theatre in Tokyo.
In February 2025, he produced Cello Meets Tea Ceremony at Suntory Hall’s Blue Rose, performing with Hiroki Kadowaki, Solo Cellist of the Japan Philharmonic Orchestra, and Yoshitaro Tsukuda, a leading otsuzumi player of the Takayasu school.
In July 2026, he held tea gatherings in Kitzbühel, Austria, and Herrsching am Ammersee, Germany.
