Minoru Katayama / Shujitsu Katayama(Tea name)

Chajin (Tea ceremony practitioner)

Born in 1984.
Certified as a Sei-Kyoju (Senior Instructor / Certified Master Instructor) of the Mushakoji Senke school of tea in 2013.
He has participated in tea gatherings held at museums, art institutions, shrines, and temples across Japan, performing tea ceremonies and sharing the spirit of chanoyu. In addition to welcoming international guests through tea, he has also traveled abroad to conduct tea ceremonies as part of cultural exchange efforts.
He is actively engaged in promoting the culture of tea through lectures and event production, including cross-genre and cross-cultural collaborations.
In 2012, he organized and performed a tea ceremony at the Official Residence of the Consul-General of Japan in New York.
In 2014, he appeared in a collaborative performance with Kouta (traditional songs) and Japanese dance on stage at the Mitsukoshi Theater.
In February 2025, he produced the collaborative event “Chanoyu and Cello (Cello meets tea ceremony)” at Suntory Hall (Blue Rose), performing alongside Hiroki Kadowaki, solo cellist of the Japan Philharmonic Orchestra, and Yoshitaro Tsukuda, an Ōtsuzumi (large hand drum) player of the Takayasu school.
